What Subaru models have a turbo option?

Whether you are cruising along the highway to work or taking the road less traveled everyone wants to get behind the wheel of a vehicle that delivers spirited performance. Which is exactly what you will get with a turbocharged BOXER under the hood. But which Subaru models feature a turbo engine?

The Subaru BOXER engine is just as unique as the Subaru that it powers. No other automaker designs either engines with horizontally opposed pistons, but this is a key factor to the performance of a Subaru. The pistons of the BOXER engine make side to side punches that result in an incredibly smooth ride and also puts less stress on the engine. The design of the BOXER engine takes up less room under the hood than other engines and also give the Subaru a low center of gravity. Which results in gripping performance. There are two 2019 Subaru models that are powered by a turbocharged BOXER engine WRX and Ascent.

  • Subaru WRX: The Subaru WRX features two turbocharged BOXER engines. The WRX is powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder with 268 horsepower and the WRX STI utilizes a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder that generates 210 horsepower. The WRX delivers exhilarating performance on and off-road with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Active Torque Vectoring, and Vehicle Dynamics Control. In true sports car fashion, the WRX comes standard with a 6-speed manual but is also available with Sport Lineartronic® transmission with paddle shifters. The WRX STI is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission and also comes standard Subaru SI-DRIVE. The 2019 STI adds a new high-flow intake and revised exhaust to deliver more power.
  • Subaru Ascent: The all-new Subaru Ascent is the largest and most powerful Subaru SUV yet with seating for up to eight and the ability to tow up to 5,000 lbs. Under the hood of the Ascent is a new turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder BOXER engine that generates 260 horsepower while getting an impressive 27 highway mpg. In addition to standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the Ascent comes equipped with a number of other performance features for spirited and capable performance on and off-road. X-Mode with Hill Descent Control works in tandem with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for enhanced traction on extra slippery slopes. While Active Torque Vectoring applies braking power to the inside front wheel for better turn-in, handling, more natural steering, and higher cornering limits while turning.
