Surprise, AZ is a beautiful city that offers its residents several outdoor recreation opportunities. Additionally, there are many places within driving distance of the city that provide amazing opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. Today, we’re looking at four of our favorites.
3 Great Outdoor Activities in Driving Distance of Surprise, AZ
1. Golfing
One great way to get a little exercise and enjoy the fresh air is to golf at Granite Falls Golf Club at 15949 W Clearview Blvd. This golf club features two 18-hole golf courses, and you can rent clubs if you don’t have any. If you’re interested in a challenge, we recommend the south course. Water presents a challenge on 10 out of 18 holes on this course, and the traps also present a challenge.
2. Hiking
We also enjoy hiking at White Tank Mountain Regional Park at 20304 West White Tank Mountain Road. There are roughly 30 miles of well-maintained, clearly marked multi-use trails that range in difficulty and length. Additionally, there are 2.5 miles of trails that only hikers are allowed on. Other activities that can be enjoyed here include:
- Biking
- Camping
- Horseback riding
- Picnicking
3. Fishing
If you’re an angler, we highly recommend fishing at Surprise Community Park at 15930 N Bullard Ave. Here, you can find Surprise Lake, and fishing is allowed from sunrise to 10 PM daily. This lake is home to many fish species, including trout, bass, sunfish, catfish, and white amur. You can also enjoy other parts of the park, including a:

- Dog park
- Playground
