Your new Subaru is automatically covered by several warranties. These warranties protect you against the possibility of any issue with the materials or workmanship that went into making your vehicle. Subaru also offers a range of extended warranties to choose from to extend coverage beyond the expiry of the original warranties. As your Subaru dealer, we want to tell you more about your new car warranty.

What Does the Standard Car Warranty Cover?

New Car Limited Warranty

This warranty covers all the systems and components in your Subaru. If any part of your vehicle has a defect, the affected part will be repaired or replaced by Subaru-trained technicians for free at a dealership. This warranty applies for the first three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.

This warranty has several exclusions. These include damage caused by unauthorized parts or modifications, accidental damage, damage caused by lack of maintenance, and normal wear and tear. In addition, this warranty does not cover components that have their own warranties.

Powertrain Limited Warranty

The powertrain consists of the engine, transmission, and transaxle, and these systems are protected for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Components covered by this warranty include the engine, cylinder heads and valve trains, seals and gaskets, torque converter, the transmission control unit, and the axle shafts and wheel bearings.

This warranty has the same exclusions as the warranty above.

Rust Perforation Limited Warranty

Perforation is damage caused by rust or corrosion that penetrates the metal from one side to the other. This warranty applies for the first five years and unlimited mileage. If a body panel suffers perforation damage, it will be replaced at no charge.

Federal Emissions Control Systems Warranties

Emissions are the toxic, pollution-causing chemicals produced by the combustion process. Your Subaru has an emissions control system that’s designed to convert these dangerous chemicals into harmless ones and water. Let’s look closer at each of these warranties.

Emission Performance Warranty

Here in Maricopa County, vehicles built after 1967 require emissions testing. If your vehicle has been properly maintained but fails an emissions test within the first two years or 24,000 miles, the cause of the failure will be identified and repaired for free.

Emissions Defect Warranty

This warranty covers all parts of the emissions system except the components in the warranty below. If any part of the system has a factory-related issue, the affected component will be repaired or replaced for free. This warranty applies for three years or 36,000 miles.

Emissions Extended Defect Warranty

This warranty applies to the catalytic converter, emissions control unit, and onboard emissions diagnostic device. These components are protected against any defect for eight years or 80,000 miles.
